I spent pretty well two full days at the Photo Video Imaging Show at the International Centre in Toronto (actually Mississauga) taking in about 4-5 seminars each day as part of my own professional growth and personal learning. Most of the seminar content was way over my head since I’m not a professional photographer and don’t intend to be one. But I attended this particular show because I do shoot many of my own photos and videos for my various websites such as clintcora.com , getpharmaceuticalsalesjob.com , pottytrainpuppydog.com and freespiritgallery.ca . The last website is particularly photos intensive since it is an online native art gallery.
I figured that if I could pick up a few tips that even a novice photographer using a simple point and shoot compact camera like myself could use, it would be worthwhile spending the weekend there as this would contribute to my professional growth. I could use these very tips and apply them directly to my website work and make my sites better for my visitors.
Of course, not all photos I take will end up on my websites as some of them will be just for fun, especially travel photos. This is where personal learning comes in. Like many people, the photos from my point and shoot camera doesn’t always turn out the way I would like them to and the seminars gave some great tips on improving my shots as well as touching them up using Photoshop.
The same goes for video. I am using more and more video and it was great to see all the new camcorder models from Sony, Panasonic, Canon and others. I do have to admit that I’m a bit overwhelmed right now with all the different technical statistics and features of the various camcorders so it will take some time to go through all the literature I picked up. But again, personal learning can involve being overloaded with new information at times, especially from weekend seminars.
In the spirit of sharing, I will post some of the more useful tips I learned from the seminars right here on this blog. I figure that most of us here have point and shoot compact cameras and we can all probably improve our consumer level photography skills.
This shows that even topics like photography can still come into play for us non-professional photographers when it comes to our own professional growth and personal learning. So stay tuned this week for some of the best tips I picked up.
