Team Motivation With Dogs
Here’s a case of team motivation that I have with my dogs at home. I took my two Lhasa Apso dogs to the vet clinic the other day to get their annual heartworm blood tests which is something they do each year before going on their preventative heartworm medication for the season from June to November. Whenever we are at the vet clinic, we use their large scale in the waiting room to get accurate weight readings for both dogs (even though we do use a bathroom scale at home).
They haven’t been to the vet clinic since the fall so we haven’t had a weight reading since then at least with the vet clinic scale. Over the winter, my dogs are a bit less active since we don’t go out as much due to the colder winter conditions. Since they both went through potty training with a dog litterbox, we actually don’t have to go outside when the weather is terrible out there. When we do go out, we don’t stay out as long as our usual walks during the rest of the year.
In previous years, both of my dogs have put on a bit of excess weight over the winters but we have always managed to work it off in several weeks during the spring. I usually just have to decrease their food intake a bit and resume longer walks with them as part of a sort of team motivation to get them down to healthy levels.
This year, I’m happy to report that although my dogs put on a bit of weight over the winter as expected, they didn’t put on very much as they were both under 20 pounds each. In previous years, they both went over 20 pounds.
Working As A Team With Dogs
My dogs are always eager to go out as most dogs are. So I see us working as a team to keep everyone, including myself, healthy by eating right and keeping active. So with more team motivation with them during the winter to maintain their weight levels, we tried our best to go outside for exercise. Although we are quite limited due to weather conditions, we were also very careful about their food intake all winter long.
Their main meals were kept to a reasonable amount each time and snacking was limited to very healthy treats like fruit and vegetable bits with only half a dog biscuit each during evenings. Sometimes they would get a full biscuit but many times, they were quite happy with half.
So I’m quite pleased with their minimal weight gain over the winter as is my vet. And now that we are using our team motivation to get on our almost daily (weather dependent) outings, it will be pretty easy to get them back to their normal optimal weight levels.
Team motivation is also very important at work so if you are part of an organization or company that plans to put on an event for your employees and you need a business motivational speaker, check me up at my website.
