Remove Barriers That Block Your Success Potential

Remove Potential Success Barriers

I was on the chairlift during a ski training session at the place where I taught snow skiing at during the winter and I was talking with our our session leader about new skis.  I asked him whether it was worthwhile for me to get new skis given that I have been using the same pair of Rossignols for several years now.

He told me that all skis lose a bit of ‘life’ or performance ability over time and that an older pair of skis can potentially hold my skiing potential back.  With this in mind, I went to another ski resort a few days later and they just happened to have a ski retailer set up outside with demo skis.

This was a great opportunity to try out different brands and models of new skis on the same day to get the best comparisons between them all.  To my pleasant surprise, all of the new skis I tried out allowed me to have a quicker and more effective edge initiation and hold.

To all of you non-skiers, you don’t have to worry about the technical aspects of edge initiation and hold.  It would be sufficient to say that I suddenly became a better skier on those new skis with less effort compared to the present skis I had (even though the pair I was skiing on for the past few years were top of the line).

It was a good direct comparison because I went down the same ski runs (slopes) with each pair of demo skis as well as my own present ones.  In reality, I was rather shocked at the difference.  My coach’s words suddenly popped into my head as I suddenly realized that he was absolutely right about older skis losing their life.

It turned out that my old skis, although still good, were actually blocking my potential as a higher level skier.  In order to move to the next higher level in my own skiing technique, a move to new skis was definitely warranted.  So about a week later, I was able to acquire a new pair of skis much like one of the ones I demoed at an instructor discount.

What Barriers Are Blocking You?

This effectively removed a barrier that blocked my potential on the snow and is a good example in any type of personal development or career development.  To be successful, you want to remove any barrier that potentially blocks your potential.

Of course, it is worthwhile to analyse what is blocking your success potential in your life.  Take time to identify them and then make efforts to remove them from your path to success.

I’ll have some exciting ski video footage to share with you in the next upcoming episode of Motivational WebTV later this week.  Look out for it.  In the meantime, check out the Motivational Videos Archive for any videos you may have missed.
