Neil Young Acoustic Unplugged Hey Hey My My
We had an official national holiday (Civic Holiday) up here in Canada this past weekend making it a long weekend. For many folks, such holidays are usually spent shopping or just spending time with family. Certainly nothing wrong with that.
For many others, weekends and holidays are used to recuperate from their busy working lives. Again, nothing wrong with that.
One thing I have noticed that works even better during ‘recuperation’ time is instead of just watching TV or lying around doing nothing as a break away from work, the off time is even more rewarding when one uses that time to pursue activities one loves.
One of the activities I love which I kept on the shelves for some time, is playing music. This past long weekend, I used some of the time to rehearse and video one of my all time favourite songs with an acoustic guitar. I heard this tune many years ago and fell in love with it the very first time I heard it.
This song is called ‘Hey Hey, My My’ by Neil Young and he actually has both electric guitar and acoustic guitar versions of it – I happen to love both. For relaxing and chilling out, the acoustic unplugged version is fantastic.
For your entertainment (and we’ll continue with the personal development afterwards), here is the video of my performance version of Neil Young’s acoustic, unplugged Hey Hey, My My.
Doing What You Love Is Part Of Personal Development
Now to continue with the personal development concept from this example of playing music, I found that off time can be done in two ways. If one just takes this time to recover from a busy work life and do nothing (other than shopping and maybe spending time with family, friends and relatives), it is effective in terms of taking a much needed break from work.
However, if in addition to all these usual off time activities, we use some of the time to do things we love, ie., our passions, we achieve an entirely additional level of achievement and satisfaction from our off time. It’s no longer just recuperating from the work week anymore as it’s more like feeling good about personal growth with your passions.
You can do this by playing your favourite sports, pursuing some sort of artwork, studying a topic completely unrelated to work or in my case, playing Neil Young’s acoustic unplugged My My Hey Hey. Just dust off that old guitar or paintbrush or camera or fishing rod or whatever, and do it. You will notice that your next weekend will feel different.
By the way, this was actually the second video of my acoustic guitar unplugged music series this summer. If you misssed the first one where I did my version of Eric Clapton’s acoustic unplugged Layla, just click on the link to get to it.
