Saving Money Through YouTube Videos
I released a new episode of Motivational WebTV earlier this week about how I save money by watching YouTube videos. The example I showed on that new video was a replacement of a window part at my house that broke down.
I was no longer able to open and close my window due to the part. Since the warmer temperatures arrived, I needed to fix it and by doing it myself, I saved $100 in labour costs. A repair person previously quoted me $150 to replace the part. The replacement part itself cost $48 at Rona.
This was actually the second time this spring I resorted to YouTube videos to teach myself on a specific type of home repair. Just several weeks ago, I replaced screens on two patio sliding doors. Both screens were damaged by my two dogs who scratched them.
Again, I researched on YouTube for videos which showed how to remove the existing damaged screens and install new ones. I must have saved quite a bit of money again by doing the repairs myself.
The YouTube videos not only showed me how to remove the sliding patio doors from the frame, they also showed me the exact materials and tools I needed which were readily available at the hardware stores.
Although some of the tasks in this repair took some time, I successfully replaced both of my damaged screens. One is already up while the other one, this time installed with a pet strength version screen, is being stored in my garage until the fall when I take down the Magic Mesh I reviewed in the latest episode of Motivational WebTV.
So saving money is totally possible with the help of YouTube videos. As I mentioned before, I’m not a natural handyman. But the repairs I did were quite straight forward and relatively simple to do.
Saving Money With Easy Home Repairs
If you have any household repairs that need to be done, saving money might also be possible by researching how they are done on YouTube and then doing the actual repairs yourself. Of course, not all repairs can be done since some might be just too complex or involved special tools that you don’t have. But many simple repairs and maintenance work can be done without hiring a professional to do them.
Yes there are a lot of resources that you can find over at YouTube. There are also dedicated channels that have these DIY videos. It often amazes me how repair men overcharge me for things I could actually do myself had I known how to do it and had I only had the curiosity to search for it at YouTube.
