Leadership Skills Involve Communication Skills
I went to New York City this month to present some workshops on leadership skills for about 150-200 college students and their campus activities advisors. It was great to see the interest level in leadership skills even at the college level.
Of course for those already in the workforce who are aiming towards more senior positions like management and supervisory roles, leadership skills will be top of mind. Yes leadership skills involve decision making skills and organizing skills but some might not realize that a HUGE part of being a leader is how effective one COMMUNICATES.
Leadership skills DO involve communication skills.
For a lot of people who have spent more time with technology rather than developing much needed interpersonal communication skills, this could be a problem if they want future leadership positions. But communication skills are most certainly trainable although one may have to expand comfort zones quite a bit to catch up to levels geared towards leadership.
This is why my live leadership skills speaking program is focused on effective communication skills which can be further broken down to three main areas; group presentation skills, one on one conversational skills and giving effective feedback to others.
Communication Skills For Great Leadership
I spend time in covering each of the three areas. Group presentation skills are usually a given since most people expect this as top leaders are usually really good when presenting in front of audiences. Even giving effective feedback might be expected since leaders often have to give feedback whether to staff members or team members.
What usually surprises people is the inclusion of one on one conversational skills. The thing is top leaders do speak to people, even on a one to one basis, quite differently compared to non-leaders. This is true whether in a working situation or even social one as there are indeed social leaders.
My live workshop on communication skills for leadership does involve participants doing one on one conversations using new techniques which is really fun. The session is indeed an active hands on one. Instead of being just a lecture, people will be doing various activities with others throughout the session.

Communication Skills Video Program
A new development on my end is that in addition to my live presentations, I’ve developed a new communication skills for leadership training program on video called Effective Communication Skills For Super Leadership which will complement my live presentation. This new video training program will be a great reference for those attending my live workshop as well as a stand alone resource for those unable to attend any of my live programs.
But to give you a taste of some powerful communication skills techniques, I offer a FREE 3-part leadership communication skills training video series you can access and details are just below.
