In Harmony Antiracism Song Development

In a previous post, I revealed the lyrics of In Harmony, the song I wrote about antiracism and antidiscrimination. I spent much of the beginning months of the pandemic recording all the music tracks in my home studio which meant that I played all of the instruments for the song and then recorded all my vocal tracks. Although when I finished all of my vocals which included singing all the harmony parts and I had a listenable song, it was never my intention to just feature my own voice on it.

I wanted to bring in other singers to expand the sonic range of the vocal tracks of In Harmony to make it more interesting to the listeners. It just so happens that I have two friends, Janine Cubias and Simona Bodea whom are both singers as well and the addition of female vocals really increases the dynamics of the overall vocal sound. So I taught them the vocal melodies including all of the harmony parts. Then I brought them into my home studio to record their vocal tracks to combine with mine.

With my basic studio recording mixing production skills which I also learned during the pandemic on Apple Logic X software, I produced a work in progress audio track of the song. It’s not the finished product yet since I want to take these tracks to a professional sound engineer to mix and master it which means to enhance it from an audio point of view and to make the song sound good on all consumer level speaker systems. But at least this work in progress audio track which you can listen to right now below will give you a good idea of the song.

There are actually additional versions of this song which I will share on future posts. One is an extended ‘Monster Guitar’ version which is longer with added lead guitar sections and another is an acoustic ‘unplugged’ version which gives the tune a completely different feel to it. I’ll also give an update on the development of the foreign language versions of In Harmony.

Looking For More Singers

So since the In Harmony project is still a work in progress one as well as a one to involve community, I am looking for more singers to participate. If you can sing, live in the GTA (within about an hour of greater Toronto area) and would like add your vocals in a recording session at my home studio in Mississauga, I would be open to adding more voices to In Harmony. As mentioned above, there are different versions of this song in English plus upcoming foreign language versions are being planned and translated. So if you can also sing in French, Spanish, Cantonese and Mandarin, we would love to have you come and participate in this unique antiracism music project.

There are also quite a few other tunes we already have recorded to add more singers to. Just contact me through this website (hit the Contact tab at the top) to add your name as additional singers for this project and I’ll contact you.

Needless to say, in order to come to my home studio (likely one at a time), singers must be fully vaccinated (at least two shots). If you already have a working studio, it might be possible to record your vocal tracks from your location and then send them to us to add with our existing tracks too.

This is going to hopefully become an on-going fun, community project using both music and video to help promote antiracism and antidiscrimination.
