Greater Toronto Area Free Self Defense Classes
The following is the press release I sent out to local media announcing the fact that I will offer free self defense classes as my community service activities. I’m hoping that local groups including private organizations, corporate businesses and non-profit groups will see this so that they can use me as part of some events they can organize for the good of the community.
It’s pretty self explanatory and if you are part of such a group that can organize and host one of my self defense seminars, just contact me and we can explore possibilities to do some good in the battle against violence towards women.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Karate World Champion Giving Back With Free Self Defense Seminars
Mississauga, Ontario, Canada – May 15, 2014 – Karate world champion Clint Cora is giving back to the community in a very unique way. Instead of standard donations, he will give back by donating his time to teach self defense seminars for free.
The Mississauga resident and past member of the Canadian National Karate Team says, “Over forty years of martial arts training and twenty years of competition have done so much for me – I’m forever grateful for how these have developed me as a person and now it’s time to give back.”
Clint Cora’s Way Of Fighting Back Against Violence Towards Women
But instead of the usual route of former champions opening up local martial arts schools, Clint is choosing to help people, particularly women who cannot commit to longer term martial arts training, become safer in our communities.
He claims, “Unfortunately, we still live in times where violence towards women still exists and I want to do my part in fighting against that.”
Many years ago, Clint did teach a multi-week self defense program at companies and colleges including one through the City of Mississauga. But like many other types of programs that run over the course of several weeks, many people find it difficult to commit to multi-week schedules.
So now Clint is teaching an intensive three-hour seminar so that participants can learn most of what was covered in his previous programs all in one single shot. He admits that longer programs result in better training but the reality is that many people do not have time for them.
All Teaching Fees Waived For Groups Willing To Host Seminars
The way his current program works is that Clint will be willing to teach his new three hour seminar with his teaching fees completely waived if any group, private, corporate or non-profit, can put together at least twenty participants willing to learn as well as organize all the logistics and venues. Corporate groups in particular, are encouraged to use Clint’s seminars as community service opportunities by donating event proceeds to local women’s shelters or other local charities. He will also consider allowing his seminar to be used as part of an organization’s fundraising event.
Clint is also planning to launch a similar self defense seminar for teen girls this summer (his blog will make announcements).
All interested groups who would like to host one of Clint Cora’s self defense seminars can get more information at his website under his seminar programs section .
