School Exam Dream
It’s weird but I sometimes get this dream that I went back to either high school or university to take more courses. For some reason, it’s always going back to take an additional diploma or degree rather than the original school setting I went to in real life. I would then be walking into this class, probably some sort of math class, that I’ve skipped many classes in. The teachers wouldn’t care about my absense since I’m now an adult learner, not some teenager whose attendance is tracked.
Then I would be taking an exam and because I’ve skipped so many classes and didn’t bother studying enough, I would be sitting there realizing that I couldn’t answer a single question. So this would be the regular failing school exam dream that I’ve had for years.
When I’m flunking my butt on the exam, that’s when I usually wake up from my dream and feeling reassured that yes, in real life, my school exam days are definitely over as I finished my MBA back in 1985.
Others Get School Exam Dream Too
You want to hear something else that’s really weird? My brother told me the other week that he also gets a similar dream where he didn’t study enough for some exam or test. Looks like I’m not the only one who gets this school exam dream. I have no idea of the significance of this dream since I’m not a dreams analyst. I know that my Lhasa Apso dogs also dream too as sometimes I can hear them. Wonder if they are dreaming about failing some sort of dog obedience training test too.
What about you? Do you ever get this type of dream where you are writing some sort of school exam or test and you are failing it big time? If so, I would love to hear about it in the comments section below.
By the way, when my dream is set in the high school environment, one of the other classes that I skip pretty well for the entire semester is gym class. Now in real life, I certainly won’t be skipping gym class!

Hi Clint…apparently the failing class dream you have is common to about 90% of the populace…both men and women! Some dream the setting to be highschool (that would be ME)….some dream university or college (my husband).
According to a sleep analysis expert I heard interview on TV recently this is a “classic” anxiety dream…usually occuring when the subconscious is working on solving some kind of “problem”.
Hmm, that’s interesting Heather. I guess it’s a good sign that my internal system is indeed working constructively I suppose.
It wasn’t that long ago I used to have a lot of these dreams sort of like you mentioned above except I was returning to a college or a university. You seemed to hit it right on the nose when you mentioned about skipping so many classes that you couldn’t keep up with what they were teaching and thus you would fail any exams miserably. Also you mentioning about returning for an additional diploma or degree as it was quite a few years ago I did go to college and I did all right and did get a degree but now in these dreams I find myself failing so miserably. Another type of dream I would get are these job type dreams where it would be an engineering job for example and I would be starting my first day on the job and I would have no idea what to do, other than lets say reading a magazine or a book to pass the time away if I can describe it right. I wondered how they ever were willing to hire me but that is the way dreams work. I think those kind of dreams like you and I have had are a little bit funny and that is why I started to do a search on dreams and found your page.
Thanks for sharing. The school dreams are apparently quite common.
