A police officer from the Ontario Provincial Police was slain this past week while on duty. Police constable Vu Pham was killed in a gunfight in rural Ontario just northwest of London. Officer Pham was born in Saigon and of Vietnamese descent. He came to Canada as a child.
Although rural communities are usually much less diverse than large metropolitan cities, Vu Pham overcame the disadvantages of being in a small town as a visible minority and was a fifteen year veteran of the OPP police force. He leaves behind a wife and three young sons which of course is very tragic.
However, I would like to think that his life story itself is a victory for diversity and I salute him for his success. Rest in peace officer Pham.
