Multicultural Festival
The Carassauga multicultural festival took place this past weekend here in my town of Mississauga, Ontario and again like previous years, the entertainment was fantastic. However, I did notice that the entire event was noticably smaller in size compared to previous years. Many countries from before were absent this year and some of the smaller country pavilions no longer had their own locations anymore as they were downsized to just tables in a room shared with other similar ‘mini-pavilions’.
In my observation, attendee traffic was not superb through these mini-pavilions either so I would doubt that such a set up for the smaller pavilions be even worthwhile next year. The larger pavilions like Egypt, Hawaii and India still got the most attendance since not only did they have their own locations or arenas, they still put on the most exciting entertainment.
Multicultural Festival Entertainment
Speaker of the multicultural entertainment, there were many repeat performances from last year from the proven programs like Hawaii and Egypt. India once again had non-stop entertainment at their pavilion. These factors all work in their favour. The more shows and the more exotic, the bigger the attendance.
It’s kind of unfair to the countries who put on cultural shows which are less exotic and tame as the attendance to these are often lower. But a culture’s style is a culture’s style which is not their fault if their music and dances are less exotic but the Mississauga crowds unfortunately, speak for themselves by showing where they prefer to attend.
The Carassauga multicultural festival is still a good time and for the $10 passport all weekend long, it’s still one of the best entertainment and diversity educational bargains in town . Although this is the first time that I chose not to attend every single pavilion, I would still recommend even dropping into each one if you haven’t been to a certain country’s exhibit before.
