Can Asians Rock And Roll?
Yes, there will be a personal development point to all this. Just bear with me and we will work it in at the end of this post.
So one of my lady friends showed me a photo of her and her two sisters during her vacation in Vietnam. The three ladies in the photo for some reason were posing with no smiles and some with arms crossed. I mentioned that these were the three toughest looking Asian women I have ever seen together. I even said that they look like an Asian female punk rock band!
My friend responded by claiming that Asians do not rock. This has a bit of truth to it as Asians in general prefer to listen to pop, dance and classical music rather than rock. Of course there are exceptions as many western rock bands have been wildly successful in countries like Japan.
Asian Guy Playing Rock And Roll
So this year I decided to bring back my long dormant musical side as rock and roll has been the style of music I’ve been most loyal to ever since I was a teen. I played some live music at recent social events with my acoustic guitar and even cut a video playing Eric Clapton’s acoustic unplugged version of Layla.
But still this doesn’t really prove anything to my lady friend since this version of Layla is not exactly hard driving rock. So I knew that I had to go electric which is actually my main choice of guitars in order to prove a point.
So I decided to plug it in for a live show at my recent home party with my social Meetup group GTA Free Spirits. Indeed my lady friend was among the audience.
Now I’m pretty sure that most people have never seen an Asian guy play rock and roll before since this performance was to be something quite interesting and novel with yours truly as the test subject answering the question of whether Asians can rock or not. Here’s a video compilation of selected moments from my live show
.
So now you can say that you actually saw an Asian guy playing rock and roll! But you just might have to share this video in case your friends don’t believe you.
Personal Development Point
The personal development point here is you can indeed do many things in life even if they are not the social norms or what might be usually expected within certain types of people, cultures, ages, body types, etc. If you have the desire and are willing to do what it takes, then you can achieve something even if it is not expected of you by others.
