Should Pets Sleep With Us?
In my dog blog Life With Dogs and Puppies, I recently posed a question to dog owners whether we should allow our pets to sleep with us in our bedrooms or not. Surprisingly, there were a lot of responses as dog owners are very passionate when it comes to their pets.
I have always claimed that in my opinion, pets have the ability to make us humans better. I even wrote about this in my personal development book The Life Champion In You. Through responsible pet ownership, we learn not only responsibility but compassion. I know that these are two main lessons that my own dogs have taught me over the years.
From a non-pet owner’s eyes, it may seem strange that us pet owners even think about allowing our dogs to sleep with us in our bedrooms. Many dog owners even allow their dogs to sleep right in their beds with them!
I’m sure that many folks out there think that us pet owners go a bit too far in having our pets so immersed into our own home lives but of course, all pet owners, especially with dogs and cats, do consider their pets as part of the family. In my case, my two Lhasa Apso dogs Chester and Roxie sleep in my bedroom but not on my bed. They have their own crates they both love as their own beds.
Dogs Part Of The Family
I for one and I’m sure along with all other pet owners, am not ashamed to admit that my dogs have become such a big part of my home life. They have made me a better person as I have experienced much personal growth because of them. So the least I could do is make them part of my family and allow them to spend their nights with me in my bedroom.
In fact, I personally feel a strange sense of comfort and peace when Chester and Roxie are both in my bedroom overnight. There is a certain feeling of togetherness and I actually feel honoured that life has given me the opportunity to have this.
