The outdoor swimming pool here at my townhouse complex is opening this week and I’m looking forward to it. By rather than just doing some wading and the lying in the sun like most of the adults who do use the pool here do, I’m going to do laps. This is a summertime commitment for achieving success.
Last year when the pool was open, I went into the pool four times per week to do 30 minutes of laps. This was one way of maintaining my cardiovascular fitness during the hot summertime.
I made sure that when I did use my pool, there were not too many kids there to block my way since as you know, kids tend to play all over the pool area making it hard to do laps. I’ve torpedoed a few kids last summer as they were not looking as I approached during my laps – of course they should be looking out for those who are seriously training and keep to their side of the pool.
I’m going to make a commitment to get into the pool again four times per week this summer when I return from my mini speaking tour in southern California later this coming week. I recall that last year, I was quite proud of my achievement in pooltime which resulted in getting me to pretty darn good physical shape. I intend to do the same this year. It’s a great exercise in personal commitment which is required for achieving success in any area of life.
Although I’m active all year round, my fitness routines change with the seasons and the swimming is just part of it. Swimming is one of the best all round exercises.
So now that we are approaching summer, have you made any commitments for the season yet? Feel free to share your thoughts on this for achieving success in the comments section below.
